Good evening,
I hope you have had a great week.
Welcome to this month’s supermarket selections.
“Wine and friends are a great blend.” -Ernest Hemingway
Let’s get to it…
Marks & Spencers - La Cascata Passivento, Puglia, Italy buy six £6.67 (down from £10)
This wine scores a whopping 4.2 on Vivino and is highly rated on the M&S website. It’s a blend of Primitivo and Negromaro. At this price point, it is a superb option if you are looking for a fuller-bodied red with a hint of sweetness.
Majestic Wine - Contesa Pecorino, Colline Pescaresi, Italy mix six £6.99 (down from £9.99)
The Contesa Pecorino is a good representation of the Pecorino grape. With spring approaching it’s a nice fresh wine with a bit of attitude and I’ve always liked the label.
Waitrose - La Vieille Ferme, Rosé, France mix six £5.62 (down from £7.49)
The chicken wine (or as I have seen recently ‘the cock’ wine). You simply can’t go wrong chilling down this wine. It’s not complex, it’s not exciting but it does exactly what a light Rosé needs to do and especially at this price.
Majestic Wine - Edna Valley Pinot Noir 2018/19, Central Coast, USA mix six £10.99 (down from £15.99)
During my time at Majestic Edna Valley wines were always popular. It was the kind of wine where if a customer loved it, it’s all they would seem to drink! I regularly used to grab a bottle before heading out of the store. I think it is a well-balanced wine and a good representation of Cali Pinot Noir.
Lidl - Bolyki, Bikaver, Hungary £7.99 (instore only)
I have had a number of followers on TikTok commenting on how much they have enjoyed this Hungarian Egri Bikavér from the Bolyki Winery. This wine is undervalued in my opinion and I won’t be surprised if we see more and more Hungarian wines on our shelves over the coming years.
Waitrose - The Chocolate Block, South Africa mix six £17.24 (down from £22.99)
I’m often asked about the Chocolate Block. For me, it’s an experience wine and worth trying at least once. It’s full-bodied and full of dark fruits. This is the best price that I have seen it at.
As always my recommendations are completely independent and I will always tell you otherwise if not.
